Goodbye Google Photos

Just a short note about about something that seems to be getting more important by the day. I’ve switched from Google Photos to the European based Pixel Union and have used it for a couple of weeks without any problems. In June it was also featured in the c’t magazine, which probably helped to get some more traction.

The best thing is that you can start using it for free, so you can see whether it is an alternative for you.

An excerpt from the feature list:

  • No ads or tracking
  • Facial recognition with privacy
  • AI object recognition
  • Invite additional users like friends and family
  • Advanced deduplication
  • Secure and private photo storage
  • Stored in the European union with EU companies
  • No uploading limits
  • Full API access
  • Archive your photos
  • Access to support with real people
  • Stored encrypted
  • Your photos on a world map
  • Share your photos with who you want
  • Detailed image searching

So I can only recommend to go and try it out for yourself!
