For the third time I’ve ordered a 50x75cm picture from Saal Digital with brushed aluminium composite, this time thankfully subsidised with a voucher that gave me 60€ off.
I think that it is quite important to understand that you need brighter parts in your image where the brushed aluminium background shines through, so it isn’t necessarily the best choice for each type of motive.
After a black and white shot of “The Loop” in Chicago that was my first order and a second one of a jetty looking out onto the calm sea during a foggy sunrise, I decided to go for another black and white photo.
This time I chose the Roker Pier Lighthouse in Sunderland, England. The lighthouse has contrasting (in colour: red and white) lines (like so many lighthouses), but here they are not painted on but rather because of the different types of granite from Aberdeen.
The print from Saal was great (as expected and usual) and nicely showed the different contrasting image parts as shown below:

The following image shows with a bit more detail how the structure of the brushed aluminium looks like.

So if you think you may have a photo that would be a suitable candidate for a print, don’t hesitate and try it out.
